Tarot Journaling
Pulling a tarot card every day!
I have received my new journal! It’s just a regular day planner with enough lines on each day, even the weekends, to write down some notes. I’m so excited to finally be using it. I try to pull a card and write about it every single day. Here is how I use my tarot journal day planner:
I try to pull a card 7 days a week. If I miss a day, it’s okay, according to Tarot for Your Self by Mary K Greer. Just think about that day, all the things that happened that day, and pull a card for it. Easy peasy and no pressure to pull every single day.
I write down the deck I am using, the card I pulled, and put a capital letter R in parenthesis if it was reversed. In the case of my Tarot of the Animal Lords deck, I also note the main animal on the card, as all animals have different symbolism.
I write down the meaning that is in the booklet that came with the tarot deck. The Tarot of the Animal Lords deck has just three words listed for each the upright and the reversal meanings. Other booklets have whole paragraphs of meanings and those I truncate. Because the Tarot of the Animal Lords tarot deck has such brief meanings listed, I typically look in my homemade Tarot Encyclopedia for further meanings. That usually helps me find a meaning that applies to me if it’s not readily apparent.
Think about how the meaning of the card or reversal applies to your life. Jot down what’s going on that could correlate to the card. You want to be able to go back a few weeks later and say: Oh yes, that was right on target or maybe find a different meaning once you have some distance from the different situations playing out in your life at the time. This journal is meant to be a guide and a record. I only have ten days in my journal so far, but I hope to be able to go back and see further meanings, possibly adding more notes in a different color ink.
I use the monthly spread to note the cards I pulled so I can hopefully see patterns emerging. I do usually go through periods where I have cards that I pull repeatedly. I just had this happen with the ten of pentacles (Reversed) showing up twice in one week! I may not notice these things if I don’t write them down.
I use the Weiser Tarot Card Sticker Book and put the matching sticker into my journal. If I pulled a reverse card, I put the sticker in upside down. This makes it easier to scan the journal, looking for certain cards or patterns. I really like the visual.
These are the five things I have been doing each day. I have missed a few days, usually weekends, and just go back and pull a card for that day when I realize it. it’s been working well for me and I really enjoy it. Do you journal on the daily? Let me know in the comments!
