I have a an announcement! I am creating a zine (small magazine that’s handmade) based on the Tarot. And a publishing company is interested in the series! Keep your fingers crossed! That will result in 79 zines published (hopefully) monthly for the foreseeable future. As soon as I know more, I’ll share! I have also received permission to quote some real queens of tarot including Mary K Greer, Theresa Reed (The Tarot Lady), Liz Dean (wrote my favorite tarot book!) and Madame Pamita, just to name a few! And THE Llewellyn Publishing company has given me permission to use any of their tarot cards in my tarot series. I’m so excited! I hope it all works out and all good juju is greatly appreciated!
Now, on to the blog…
One of my current favorite decks is Disney’s Alice in Wonderland deck. What is interesting about this deck is that they have alternatives to the classic suits of wands, swords, cups, and pentacles. Instead they have teacups, hedgehogs, flowers, and spades. It’s a little bit of mental gymnastics to remember which correlates with which traditional suits so I can read them. I often have to refer to the book to see which is which. So teacups equal cups, hedgehogs equal pentacles, spades equal swords, and flowers equal wands.
The images are beautiful. I love them all. The Queen of Hearts is the Empress, her little husband is the Emperor, there’s a beautiful white rose as The Star, Alice’s sister is the Hierophant, just to name a few of the Major Arcana. The hedgehogs and teacups are adorable. I recommend the deck just based on the images, if you’re an Alice in Wonderland and a tarot collector, it’s essential!
The booklet is interesting. They give a description of the content of the card before anything else. I think they are trying to connect the Alice images with the original images. Then they give both upright and reversed meanings. Not all booklets give reversals, so I appreciate that. I always check the meanings of these cards as they are often not your typical meaning, there is a slight Alice twist applied. Then I check my homemade tarot encyclopedia to get further meanings if what is in the book does not apply to me or my situation.
Find the Alice in Wonderland deck here. And check out these images! Enjoy!
